Diesel Fuel to Go

Another interesting day on our run towards Pittsburgh. We were all looking forward to sleeping in this morning since the fuel dock didn't open until 8:00am. We were all up and moving about around 7:00 this morning. Right at 8:00, the dock attendant came down to the boat and asked if we needed fuel. "Why, yes. Yes we do need some fuel". She goes back into the office to turn on the diesel pumps. Unfortunately there was no juice. We did not have power to the diesel pumps. The gas pumps turned on just fine, but we couldn't get the diesel pumps to wake up.

Fortunately, David is an electrician, so he took out his multi-meter and tried to troubleshoot the problem. After about an hour and half or so, with the assistance of about 4 or 5 of the guys around the docks, David got the diesel pump to give us the gift of travel. We pumped 325 gallons into Obsession and finally got underway at 10:00am.

The rest of the day went flawlessly. All the locks were ready for us and we didn't have any waits on the 3 locks we traveled through today. We traveled another 181 miles up the Ohio River to our next fuel stop at Cannelton, IN and are docked at Rocky Point / Perry Marine. Ralph, the proprietor of Perry's, met us at the dock tonight at 7:15pm and helped us fuel up. Then he drove us up the road to The Patio Steakhouse for dinner since the local restaurant was closed on Monday. The four of us had a great meal together and enjoyed exchanging stories. Ralph told us all about the floods on the river dating back many years. It was a great history lesson about Cannelton.

I have been remiss in not giving a big shout out to Todd Fichera, David's friend who has been with us on the entire trip from Toronto. Todd has been the king of the galley on this trip. Each day he has been making the best sandwiches for lunch. In addition, Todd has been the go to guy in the locks. He has been a great addition on the trip. So thanks Todd for all that you have done and continue to do on the trip.  All of your hard work is truly appreciated and I am sorry I have not thanked you sooner.

Tomorrow it is on to Lighthouse Point Marina in Aurora, IN another 221 miles up the river. The diesel stops have worked out very well so far, but it looks like we will finally have to get a fuel truck to meet us on Thursday so we can finish the last 120 miles of the trip. We knew it was coming, but we have been working to find a work around. No luck so far.

The weather for the trip has been pretty gloomy as you can see from some of the pictures, but the temperature has been really great with low humidity.

We met the owners of this paddle wheeler in the marina last night.

The dock office in Golconda, IN last night.

Just waiting for the diesel pumps to work so we can get going.
